Day 10: Monday, September 23, 2013

46 miles from Cape Woods Campground in Buxton, NC to Cedar Creek Campground & Marina in Sea Level, NC via the Cape Hatteras and Ocracoke Ferries. We had a tight schedule in order to make the 1:00 reservation for the Ocracoke Ferry and we were worried about the wind. We were up and out by 7:15 so we could backtrack to see the Cape Hatteras lighthouse.  It was a beautiful day and as it turns out the wind was with us most of the day.  We met Bob at the Cape Hatteras Ferry and crossed without a problem.  The ride through the Cape Hatteras National Seashore was stunning.  With the wind, we were keeping a great pace.  It’s the quickest I have ever seen mile markers come up.  As a result, we got to Ocracoke by 11:00.  That gave us time to explore the village and have a marvelous lunch at SmacNally’s Raw Bar & Grill.  Donna and I both took a nap on the Ocracoke Ferry so the last leg of the trip through the Cedar Island National Wildlife Refuge was another very enjoyable experience.  All-in-all, a great day after yesterday’s deluge.
