Day 21: Friday, October 4, 2013

We had a great day of fun in Charleston.  Bob golfed 18 holes.  He didn’t see any alligators but did see a huge wild turkey on the course. Donna and I went to Hominy Grill and the Charleston Tea Plantation. The food at the restaurant, one of Amanda’s favorites, was absolutely tremendous.  The restaurant serves boiled peanuts to all tables.  Donna had never eaten them and remarked that if given one without knowing what it was, she would never guess it was a peanut.  If you have never had them, they taste a bit like potatoes.  I had grilled, chilled Spanish mackerel, house-made hot pepper jelly with goat cheese & sesame water crackers and pecan pie. I can eat all this because we are bicycling 50 miles tomorrow!  Donna had she-crab soup, a big ole biscuit and delectable chocolate coconut cake.  Then we set off to the only working tea farm in North America.  The grounds were beautiful and the tour was educational.  We learned that oolong, black tea and green tea are processed differently, but from the same plant, camellia sinensis.
